1 million years ago: The cave holds the world’s earliest evidence of fire used inside a home (ash and burnt bones).

10,000 years ago: People engraved stones and made ostrich eggshell beads for decoration.

Last 1,000 years: San hunter-gatherers painted rock art on the cave walls.

Today: Wonderwerk is a National Heritage Site and open to visitors from around the world.
